The rainy mood playlist.
It’s for a day, probably cold and rainy, where you just don’t feel like doing life. The rainy mood playlist is for sitting in bed, under warm blankets with a nice hot drink, brooding about something. Everything. Basically, it’s for when you’re feeling down.
Is anyone else’s mental state super dependent on the weather?!
I decided to write out these songs when the weather had dropped from 65 to 32 degrees overnight, and I was feeling particularly cold, sad, and bitter. It happens to me a lot– when it’s cold out, it’s always harder for me to get up and do things than it is in the summer. I have much more motivation in the warmer months, or at least when the sun is out. When it’s rainy or cold or gray, I like to stay inside with a playlist like the one below, with songs that reflect my mood. It reminds me that other people get this way, so it’s okay. And it’s okay to spend some time taking care of yourself.
The rainy mood playlist is for everyone who feels this way sometimes.
Literally everyone has days where they just want to curl up in a ball and brood instead of painting on that smile and taking on responsibilities. As long as this isn’t the majority of your days, it’s fine to do this. Especially when you’re in your twenties– you have so much to do. You’re trying to build your financial independence, make a name for yourself at work, get good grades in school, navigate all kinds of relationships. You need to wallow sometimes. So, my gift to you, is the gift of music to wallow to.
I think I’ve done a good job of adding songs that deal with lots of different crises. There are songs about losing a lover, being annoyed at a lover, and wishing you had one. Some are about family, some are about general overwhelm, and some just sound dark but they’re actually sexual. Some sound upbeat and are secretly very, very dark. You are sure to find something that fits the type of brooding you want to do. Now, I love lyrics, so I’ve added the lyric that I think best explains why each song belongs on this list. However, you really have to listen to a lot of them to get the best idea.
Finally, of course, feel free to leave a comment about your favorite rainy mood song! I’ll be sure to add it on. We are, after all, a community of twenty-somethings tryna help each other out.
